What is BKV Energy’s mission as an electricity retailer?

Our mission at BKV is to empower our customers. Through radical transparency, meticulous simplicity, and a commitment to fairness. We work everyday to provide a customer experience that cannot be found anywhere else.

What is the company’s history in the electricity industry?

BKV Energy was founded in 2022 by a group of innovators who realized they had a better way to produce and deliver energy while empowering Texans. BKV Energy’s parent company, BKV Corporation (BKV), is one of the top gas producers in the country and has been supplying natural gas to help power millions of homes for over seven years. In 2021, BKV completed its acquisition of our first high efficiency, low emmissions natural gas power plant that serves millions of people in Texas.

What are BKV Energy’s plans for expanding into new markets?

BKV Energy is currently focused on creating a unique customer experience in Texas, and our long-term objective is to become a national brand.

How many customers does your company serve?

We serve customers all throughout the ERCOT deregulated energy market in Texas.

What are the company’s major accomplishments or milestones?

We pride ourselves on being fast moving disruptors who see opportunities where others do not. In seven years, BKV has risen to become one of the largest gas producers in the US, become a power generator, become a leader in the carbon capture movement, and develop a consumer brand with a differentiated customer experience.

What is your company’s approach to community outreach and engagement?

We believe in building strong and meaningful relationships with the communities we serve. Our approach to community outreach and engagement involves actively listening to our customers’ needs, collaborating with local organizations, and providing educational resources to promote energy efficiency and sustainability.

How does the company give back to the community?

Giving back to the community is an essential pillar of our values. As a young company, we are still working hard to build our vision of how we can positively impact our communities, but our goal is to develop programs that support local initiatives and organizations which align with our values of sustainability and community.

What are the company’s policies on sustainability and environmental impact?

At BKV, sustainability is a core value that guides all our operations and decisions. We are committed to reducing our environmental impact by prioritizing lower impact, sustainable energy sources, minimizing waste, and promoting energy efficiency. We regularly review and update our policies and practices to ensure that we are meeting the highest environmental standards, and we are actively developing solutions towards our net-zero target in our extraction and power production efforts.

How does your company support energy efficiency and conservation?

Energy efficiency and conservation are essential components of our mission to promote sustainable energy usage. We support our customers in reducing their energy consumption by providing education and resources on energy-saving practices, and we will plan to offer incentives for helping reduce the strain on the grid during peak energy usage periods. Not only do we believe in helping customers be efficient, we have invested in a high efficiency, low emissions power plant to ensure that we are doing our best to help reduce our environmental footprint. BKV has invested widely in pre-combustion carbon capture processes to reduce greenhouse gas emissions at the source across our supply chain. BKV has an ambitious target to be net-zero by 2030, which you can read about in detail here.

What is your company’s policy on energy price fluctuations?

At BKV Energy, we only offer fixed prices to our customers to protect them from the high price volatility in the market. We have a robust risk management process behind us that helps us achieve this goal. We avoid price speculation because we are in the business of providing a valuable product to our customers.

How does your company generate and source its electricity?

We have access to many sources of electricity, including 100% renewable generators. We also work hand in hand with our power plant in Temple, Texas.

What types of electricity plans does your company offer?

We are proud to offer straightforward, honest energy plans free of gimmicks. Our plans are fixed-rate plans, so our customers always know how much they will pay for electricity. And, we don’t employ creatively-marketed plans that sounds good in principal but in practice often leave consumers feeling burned when they receive a higher bill than expected. All of our plans start with a 29% renewable mix, but we empower our customers to decide if they want to go 100% renewable. Like most every other retail provider in the industry, we support 100% renewable plans by offsetting the carbon footprint of the electricity provided through the purchase of Renewable Carbon Credits, or RECs. On a shared electrical grid like Texas’, the electricity we all receive through the ERCOT grid is mixed with electricity from a number of different sources and means of production. RECs provide our customers accountability and tracking to substantiate where their renewable electricity comes from.

We have a team focused on providing our customers with the best customer experience. Customers can reach out to us via email, phone, or chat, and there is always a real person behind these channels whose focus is to solve whatever issue comes their way in the most efficient manner.
