“I’ve been a loyal customer of Cirro Energy for nine years, and I can confidently say that it’s the best electric company I’ve ever used. Their plans are unmatched in Houston. When I first moved into a 2400 sq ft house, my monthly bill was no more than $200 during the summer months. Since then, we’ve moved to an almost 2700 sq ft home, and I recently received our first bill for May, which was a mere $108.00. I keep our air between 70-74 degrees at all times. No other company can match Cirro’s plans. Whenever I’m approached by other energy companies in the store and they request to see my last bill, they always advise me to stick with Cirro. It’s amusing!”

“Criminal enterprise. I tried to switch providers and was met with incredible disconnect fees. They get you in a headlock. It’s difficult to switch. They can not wait to send disconnect fees. The time allowed to pay a bill is unreasonable. I’ve been in business 35 years and have an immaculate credit. Never have I dealt with a company like this in the United States. I’m in disbelief they are allowed to operate in Texas.”

“Was happily paying my bill each month, until I got a contract renewal email where my rates increased. It’s Texas – so I switched to a company with better rates instead of renewing. They tried to charge me a $270 early termination fee because of a small discrepancy in the switch over date and my contract end date…. I had zero intentions to switch or anything until they sent the contract renewal email. The email mentioned nothing about it being an early renewal. When I called to remove the charge they said they wouldn’t remove, but tried to talk me into a renewal at the same rate I’m currently at (still higher than the company I switched to). Seems like they use this tactic often based on the reps I talked to being VERY well versed in what to say. Refused to remove the charge despite my stellar payment history. Worst customer service and business practices I’ve encountered with an electric provider in the 10 years living in Texas. Wouldn’t recommend. Have already reported them to the BBB.”

Fees and fine print

Cirro Energy charges a $30 Returned Payment Charge for each payment transaction that is returned unpaid or not processed, including returned bank drafts, returned electronic fund transfers, and rejected credit card transactions.

They also charge a Disconnect Notice Fee up to $30 for each disconnection notice, as well as a $25 Disconnect Recovery Charge if a customer fails to pay the past due amount before the expiration date of the disconnection notice.

Cirro Energy may also charge a 5% Late Payment Penalty on the past-due balance if a customer does not pay the bill by the due date.

At signup, they may require a deposit to begin service.

To cancel your Cirro Energy electricity plan before the last 14 days of the contract, you may be required to pay an early termination fee ranging from $95 to $395. The early termination fee varies by plan and can be found on the Electricity Facts Label.

Some Cirro Energy plans have a minimum usage fee of $9.95 when you use fewer than 2,000 kWh in a billing cycle.
