The city features a wide range of housing options, from established neighborhoods like Cinco Ranch and Nottingham Country to newer master-planned communities such as Elyson and Cane Island. Katy’s economy is driven by a mix of energy, retail, education, and healthcare sectors. The presence of major employers like Igloo Products Corp., Academy Sports + Outdoors (corporate HQ), Memorial Hermann Katy Hospital, and a strong base of energy sector professionals commuting to Houston’s Energy Corridor ensures a steady employment market. In addition, Katy Mills Mall and the expanding Katy Boardwalk District contribute to both job creation and regional economic activity.
The area experiences a humid subtropical climate, with long, hot summers where temperatures in July and August regularly exceed 95°F, and short, mild winters that rarely bring freezing conditions. Outdoor recreation is central to Katy’s appeal. Popular destinations include Mary Jo Peckham Park, featuring stocked fishing lakes and walking trails, and the 200-acre Katy Park for sports and leisure. The city’s extensive greenbelt system and proximity to George Bush Park offer ample space for biking, running, and family outings.
With its strong school system, growing commercial hubs, and strategic location near major highways like I-10 and Grand Parkway, Katy provides a compelling combination of suburban comfort, economic opportunity, and accessibility—ideal for those seeking to establish long-term roots just outside of Houston.
Katy is a high-growth suburban market recognized for its top-tier public education, master-planned residential developments, and expanding commercial infrastructure. Plans with strict usage requirements or market-dependent pricing can be risky. A fixed-rate plan offers more stability and fewer surprises.

As the 2025 Atlantic hurricane season approaches, many Houstonians may wonder whether they will suffer through more extended power outages like those experienced after Hurricane Beryl in 2024. We’ve got big news—BKV Energy has officially been named a Top 5 Finalist in the Houston Chronicle’s 2025 Best of the Best competition for Best Electricity Company! This recognition means the world to us, and we couldn’t have gotten here without your support. Thank you to everyone who nominated us…
So far BKV has the best rates I’ve found and no base fee. As I landlord I like the option of signing up for 3 months at locked in rate and if things go well and I get a renter in earlier it’s only a $20 month cancellation. After snowpocalypse in Texas last year people with a variable rate got astronomical bills!
BKV Energy is a good choice for electric co. I have been very pleased. They communicate via email. As busy as I am, it is nice to get emails reminding me my bill is due. Things like that. And I get rewards just for being a customer. I just received a virtual debit card worth $45. Thanks BKV.
