Most Texans, around 85-90%, live in a city with a deregulated energy market where they have the power to choose who supplies power to their home.
The other 10-15% of the state population receives their power from electric cooperatives or municipally-owned utility companies, and do not have the power to choose.
Check the list of regulated cities below to find out whether you have the power to choose.
If you live in one of these cities, you do not have the power to choose your electricity provider.
The majority of Texas has a deregulated energy marketplace.
Major deregulated cities include Dallas, Houston, Fort Worth, Corpus Christi, Midland, Odessa, San Angelo, Abilene, and Wichita Falls.
