ESI ID stands for “Electric Service Identifier.” ESI IDs are unique service identification numbers assigned to every electric meter on a home or business in Texas.
ESI IDs are used to set up power at your home, when you switch providers, and measure your energy consumption.
REPs do not assign these IDs, they are created by the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT).

Your electricity provider uses your ESI ID to set up services at your home
The ESI ID helps determine which TDU (e.g. Oncor or CenterPoint) is responsible for delivering power to your home
You can use your ESI ID while shopping for electricity to find rates in your area
