BKV Energy’s electricity plans are a great choice for Waco, Texas residents:
Waco, Texas sits in Central Texas along the I-35 corridor, which means that residents deal with hot, humid summers, mild winters with occasional sharp cold snaps, and a stormy spring season with intense and potentially violent weather.
Here’s how each season is likely to impact your electricity bill:
Regardless of the season, fixed-rate electricity plans are the best option for most Waco homeowners and renters because they offer protection from spikes in wholesale prices.
Waco sits along the I-35 corridor, right between Dallas and Austin, and has spent the last several years transforming that central location into real momentum by revitalizing the downtown area, gaining national recognition for the Magnolia Market, and for its increased housing opportunities.
Waco’s economy is anchored by education, healthcare, retail, and light manufacturing. Major employers include Baylor University, Ascension Providence Hospital, the City of Waco, and L3Harris Technologies.
The city has a stead employment base across professional, education, and skilled trade roles.
Waco remains one of the more affordable places to put down roots in Texas. As of late 2025, the median home sale price in Waco was around $275,000, well below the national median, and the overall cost of living runs about 10-15% lower than the U.S. average.
Housing options range from historic homes near Baylor and Castle Heights to newer suburban developments on the edges of the city.
With Waco’s population approach 150,000 people, the area has evolved into a dynamic regional center, with Baylor University serving as a major anchor for academic research, athletes, and local economic activity.
Urban redevelopment has transformed the small downtown area and Brazos River corridor into a hub for culture, recreation, and commerce.
This momentum was kicked into high gear by the Magnolia Market at the Silos, launched by Chip and Joanna Gaines.
Cultural and recreational spots run deep here. Visit the Dr. Pepper Museum, the Texas Ranger Hall of Fame and Museum, Cameron Park Zoo, or Waco Mammoth National Monument.
Cameron Park is one of the largest urban parks in Texas, with over 400 acres of trails and river access.
Check out annual events like Brazos Nights and the Silobration for a good time.
Waco’s food scene has grown right alongside its tourism boom, with standouts like Magnolia Table, Milo All Day, George’s Restaurant, and Guess Family Barbecue.
A growing wave of breweries, food halls, and coffee shops round out an increasingly diverse culinary identity.

Electricity providers in Waco use complex plans that can drive up costs. Discounted rates at certain hours, bill credits, or wholesale pricing often come with hidden fees or penalties. Deviating from strict usage targets can result in higher bills. To avoid surprises, consumers should opt for fixed-rate plans with clear pricing.

So far BKV has the best rates I’ve found and no base fee. As I landlord I like the option of signing up for 3 months at locked in rate and if things go well and I get a renter in earlier it’s only a $20 month cancellation. After snowpocalypse in Texas last year people with a variable rate got astronomical bills!

BKV Energy is a good choice for electric co. I have been very pleased. They communicate via email. As busy as I am, it is nice to get emails reminding me my bill is due. Things like that. And I get rewards just for being a customer. I just received a virtual debit card worth $45. Thanks BKV.
